crystalline Pottery?
Crystalline pottery is a remarkable form of ceramic art distinguished by its stunning crystal patterns that emerge during the firing process, resulting in uniquely beautiful pieces. This captivating effect is achieved when glazes are mixed with specific minerals, such as zinc and silica, are carefully cooled in the kiln under highly controlled conditions. The meticulous control of temperature over an extended period allows these crystals to grow, creating intricate designs that are impossible to replicate.
The complexity of this process results in an elevated cost due to the expertise, time, and inherent risks involved in producing each piece. The loss rate for crystalline pottery is anywhere between 5% to 50% of a kiln load due to a number of problems that could arise.
